U17 WORLD-CUP: Sweden Thrash Argentina 4-1 To Claim Bronze!

ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - NOVEMBER 08: Valmir Berisha #9 of Sweden celebrates his team's third goal with team mates during the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013 3rd place playoff match between Sweden and Argentina at Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium on November 8, 2013 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Sweden beat Argentina 4-1 at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Friday’s match for third place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE. The Scandinavians were the better side from the opening whistle, Valmir Berisha again proving one of the top strikers at these finals with a three-goal day to bring his total haul to seven goals in seven games as Sweden finish their first junior world finals with bronze.

Sweden were out in front early in the consolation undercard. Almost inevitably, it was Berisha – the Scandinavians’ goal machine here in UAE – who opened the scoring. Mirza Halvadzic kept the ball alive at the edge of the area before Carlos Strandberg, making his first start in UAE, chipped a clever ball over the top for the lurking Berisha to score his fifth of the tournament.

U17 WORLD-CUP: Meet the Two Captains!

Two captains, five questions Team captains have a special responsibility to lead by example ahead of a big game. FIFA.com caught up with Nigerian skipper Musa Muhammed and Mexico’s captain Ulises Rivas ahead of the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE on Friday. We posed five questions to the team leaders about what they expect in from the game – a rematch of the group stage contest that ended 6-1 for the Africans – their dreams of becoming world beaters, and who they’ll go to first when the final whistle blows.

FIFA.com: What kind of game do you expect in the final?
Nigeria captain Musa Muhammed: The first game that we played against Mexico is over now. It’s in the past, so we’re focusing on the next one. It will be a hard game, because it’s a final and both sides have a lot to play for. We are sure to be totally focused before we kick off.
Mexico captain Ulises Rivas: It’s a different match from the first one, for sure. It will be a tough game for us, so we’ll have to be ready. It’s a World Cup final and this is a stage where you have to be at your best.

TRAGEDY: Nigerian Referee Dies During Fitness Test

Osita Nwadashi, a member of the Lagos State Referees Council, was taking part in the exercise and was on the verge of completing the running exercise when stopped and called for medical attention. But he slumped soon after and failed to respond to all attempts to revive him.

He was taken in an ambulance to the National Hospital, Abuja where he was pronounced dead. Ahmed Maude, President of the Nigeria Referees Association, confirmed the incident. "It is a sad day for all of us," Maude said. "He was one of our more promising young referees."

It is the second time in three years that tragedy will follow the referees annual training. In 2010, two referees Oyetola Oatunde from Oyo State Referees Council, and Faloye Matthew from the Ogun State Council both collapsed and dies in similar circumstances.

According to an obviously traumatised Maude: “It was quite unfortunate. He has been certified dead by the medical personnel.” Absorbing the NRA of any complicity, Azeez insisted that his death was not lapses on the part of the association, stressing: “We had the best of everything.

SOCCER: Ramsey Steals Famous Win In Germany!

Aaron Ramsey heads Arsenal in frontThe visitors took the lead in the 62nd minute with a header from Aaron Ramsey - the side's first attempt on goal - and went on to repel a late siege from Dortmund to secure a valuable three points.

Victory leaves Arsenal top of the group on nine points, while Dortmund - who were playing their 100th tie in the European Cup - slip out of the top two as a result of Napoli's win over Marseille.

Jurgen Klopp made one enforced change from the side that stormed to a 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Stuttgart on Friday, with Mats Hummels (thigh) making way for Neven Subotic.

Arsenal, meanwhile, were unchanged from Saturday's 2-0 victory over Liverpool that sent them five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

SOCCER: The DIVER Called Ashley Young!

Diving in tandem: Young is mocked up diving next to Tom Daley
One can compare Asheley's Diving techniques to the following...

Ashley Young’s ‘dive’ against Real Sociedad has gone viral on the internet – with the England winger being depicted in film posters and mocked up alongside Tom Daley on a diving board. Young won a penalty in the second half after a challenge from Markel Bergara – which was missed by Robin van Persie – as United drew 0-0 in Spain. Contact seemed to be minimal at best and even though manager David Moyes defended Young, citing a ‘tug in the bo’, there have been other less forgiving opinions as a number of former United players have lined up to criticise Young.

EPL: Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United win league despite their troubled start...

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the team can overturn a poor start to win the Premier League, despite being eight points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

Ferguson, 71, said: "We had bad starts to the season many times.
"We are the only club in that league that can come from behind to win the league because of our history."
Ferguson, who remains a club director, retired from the manager's positionat the end of last season after winning 38 trophies in a 27-year reign.
And Moyes has struggled to win over some fans after a stuttering start to his United career.

Torres late Tap-In punishes Man City

Fernando Torres scores Chelsea's winner against Manchester City
Fernando Torres capitalised on a last-minute calamity in Manchester City's defence to give Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge.
Sergio Aguero's stunning equaliser looked to have given the visitors a point until a breakdown in communications between goalkeeper Joe Hart and central defender Matija Nastasic allowed Torres to pounce and send Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho into the crowd in celebration.
Nastasic looked in prime position to clear Willian's speculative long ball but Hart's dash from goal appeared to panic the 20-year-old Serb, who headed the ball beyond his keeper and Torres won the race to turn the ball home.
Torres had been the game's central figure, setting up Andre Schurrle's first goal since his £18m summer move from Bayer Leverkusen as well as missing a sitter and hitting the woodwork as Chelsea earned a deserved half-time advantage.

Mourinho down plays importance of Manchester City clash

Mourinho down plays importance of Manchester City clash!

Jose Mourinho has played down the significance of Sunday's Premier League showdown with Manchester City, live on Sky Sports.
Chelsea welcome City to Stamford Bridge a point better off after eight games and on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run which has included 14 goals in their last four games.
"We have to play our game," said the Portuguese boss. "We are going to play our game and let's see if our game is enough to win against them.
"I just play every game the same way. We want to win. To win is good, to lose is not good.

Mourinho believes six teams are in title contention, including Manuel Pellegrini's City.
"He has the most important thing which is an unbelievable squad of players," added Mourinho, who also maintains Manchester United are still in the running, despite already being eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

Ball Tampering incident - South Africa penalised!

Ball Tampering incident - South Africa penalised!

Laws of Cricket - Law 42.3
"It is unfair for anyone to rub the ball on the ground for any reason, to interfere with any of the seams or the surface of the ball, to use any implement, or to take any other action whatsoever which is likely to alter the condition of the ball, except as permitted in (a) above."

South Africa have been penalised five runs for ball tampering during the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai.
Replays showed Faf du Plessis rubbing the ball over a zip on his trousers.
After talking to Proteas captain Graeme Smith during Pakistan's second innings, umpire Ian Gould awarded the additional runs to Pakistan.
The decision meant the umpires had decided the ball's condition had been changed contrary to the game's rules.
It is expected the umpires will lay a charge against Du Plessis to match referee David Boon after the day's play, with an immediate hearing to follow.
Gould and fellow umpire Rod Tucker, who also ordered the ball to be changed, took the unusual action at the start of the evening session in Dubai, where South Africa are on the verge of completing a comfortable victory.
After bowling Pakistan out for 99 in their first innings, Smith hit 234 and AB de Villiers 164 as South Africa made 517 in reply.
Pakistan were 132-4 at the close on day three, needing a further 286 to avoid an innings defeat.
"As per 42.1 of the ICC playing conditions, the umpires replaced the ball and fined the South Africa team five penalty runs for ball tampering," an ICC spokesperson confirmed.
The last time a five-run penalty was issued for ball tampering was during the 2006 Oval Test between England and Pakistan, when the tourists were adjudged the guilty party.
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq reacted angrily and decided not to continue the Test in protest.
Australian umpire Darrell Hair duly awarded the game to England - the only forfeited match in Test history.
This month, the ICC amended its laws regarding the condition of balls, saying "if a player responsible can be identified" the ball will be changed, a five-run penalty will be awarded and the player responsible will be reported.
Altering the condition of the ball is a level two offence under the ICC's code of conduct, which carries a penalty of 50-100% of their match fee and/or suspension from one Test or two one-day internationals for a first offence.
